Cyber SQUATTING
Hey People!!!
This stuff uis related to my previous blog featuring Artificial Intelligence By GOOGLE(So if u havent read it pls go through it....)
What is it?
Cybersquatting is a derogatory term used to describe the practice of registering and claiming rights over Internet domain names that are, arguably, not for the taking. Thus in simple words it is Hijacking Domain names and then demanding money for the sale of that Domain Name...
For instance....A person may register for a WebSite having the keywords similar to a renowned Actor or a Firm which is no way related to it...The cybersquatter then offers the domain to the person or company who owns a trademark contained within the name at an inflated price, an act which some deem to be extortion.
Origin:
Cyber Squatting originated at a time when most businesses weren't particularly aware about commercial opportunities on the Internet. The term derives from 'squatting' and refers to the act of reserving a particular Internet domain name for the purpose of selling it at a higher price later.
Problems Faced:
A change allowing internet domain names to appear in Asian languages has sparked fears about a possible new wave of cyber-squatting...as reported by BBC.For the first time, domain names are being accepted by internet registrars in which everything to the left of the ".com" can appear in Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
The lack of internationalised domain names is creating a class of people who are information have-nots which finally leads to "Multilingual International Names Consortium".
The whole point to tell is that:
This might be one of the reasons why : "www.google.com","www.googlr.com","www.googlw.com"....all lead to Google HomePage...
Well if anyone else has different views ...pls share them...
Hoping to see some interesting facts about this whole issue!!!!

hey ash,
Ther'll be many ways to get rid of dis prob 4 d biggies, coz they r BIGGIES :).. but as u said, if d domain name s important, then thoda paisa karch karna padta hai :)
hmmm! ppl know short cuts to make money!
found your blog through orkut, good material, I have been keeping an eye out for new legislation against this practice in the US. I have noticed an attitude developing that resembles "first come first serve." Unfortunate as it is, I think any business that is starting up should buy its preferred webaddress from the start even if the website only shows up months later.
